Sultana Raisins Market Update

New crop concerns seem to be overcome:
Just 2-3 weeks ago, some market players and farmers had some worries due to the unsettled weather conditions in Manisa region. Because, in the end of June and beginning of July, in some days there was unexpected rains and poor sunshine. Due to this reason, people were thinking that this season harvesting time may delay about 2 weeks, and also crop quality may be affected little bit.
But this week, as the weather conditions improved, all worries disappeared and everything seems in order again. Sun is shining as usual, and weather is very hot in the region.
So, after all, nobody expect any negative situation till harvesting start in the beginning of August.
Crop volume is expected to be between 250.000-300.000 mton. And there is only 30.000-40.000 mton product remained from old (2019) crop.
Decisions on intervention buying of TMO is wondered.
Turkish Raisins exporters have already started giving prices for new crop contracts. But, although crop volume and quality expectations are good, there is still one factor is unclear which may affect -increase- the prices very much: whether there will be any intervention to the prices again this year by TMO (Turkish Agricultural Bureau), or not ? (last year TMO had bought products with certain price level and increased the prices)
TMO have already announced purchase prices for hazelnuts. They also announced the decision of intervention buying in the apricot market. But, for sultana raisins market, they have not announced any decision or prices yet.
Current prices: Prices are given the same for both old crop (prompt shipment) and new crop (shipment earliest in beginning of September. Average prices are :
-Type no8, A grade, Std.size, USD 1.60-1.65 per kg FOB Izmir.
-Type no9, A grade, Std.size, USD 1.65-1.70 per kg FOB Izmir.
-Type no10, A grade, Std.size, USD 1.80-1.85 per kg FOB Izmir.
–Organic Sultana Raisins, A grade, Std.size, USD 2.25-2.30 per kg FOB Izmir.
-Organic Thomson Raisins, A grade, Std.size, USD 2.40-2.45 per kg FOB Izmir.
